What is a Petition? A petition is a formal written request presented to the County Assembly by a citizen, group of citizens, or an organisation seeking the Assembly to take action or investigate a matter of public concern. Under Article 119 of the Constitution, every person has the right to petition the Assembly.

How to Submit a Petition

Any person may petition the Busia County Assembly on any matter within the Assembly's mandate. Follow these steps to submit your petition.

Draft Your Petition

Write a clear petition stating your name, address, the facts of the matter and the relief or action you are seeking from the Assembly.

Find a Sponsor

Identify an MCA willing to present your petition on the floor of the Assembly on your behalf during a plenary sitting.

Submit to the Clerk

Submit your signed petition to the Clerk of the County Assembly at least 7 days before the sitting at which it is to be presented.

Assembly Action

The Assembly considers your petition and refers it to the relevant committee which investigates and reports back to the Assembly within 60 days.
